چکیده

We present a qualitative model for reasoning about perceptions, sensors, and belief, and a logic to reason about this model. Basic to our model is a distinction between precision and accuracy, for both of which we provide qualitative deenitions. In our logic this distinction gives rise to two modal operators|P for actual perception, and C p for perceptual capability , which is captured as a set of possible percepts. Adding to these operators the standard B operator to model belief, we end up with a logic combining standard Kripke-style semantics with the almost-standard`neighbor-hood semantics.' We deene various agent types in the logic, from agents who believe all and only what the sensors tell them, to much more skeptical agents. We deene each agent both axiomatically and model-theoretically, and provide soundness and completeness results relating the two types of deenitions.

Belief Propagation in Qualitative Probabilistic Networks

Qualitative probabilistic networks (QPNs) [13] are an abstraction of in uence diagrams and Bayesian belief networks replacing numerical relations by qualitative in uences and synergies. To reason in a QPN is to nd the e ect of decision or new evidence on a variable of interest in terms of the sign of the change in belief (increase or decrease). We review our work on qualitative belief propagati...

Occupational Therapists\' Clinical Reasoning: A Qualitative Study

Objectives: Clinical reasoning is at the heart of clinical work; it is affected by different field factors. A clear understanding of the reasoning process could solve practitioners' problems on how to make their underlying theories, assumptions and values more explicit. The aim of this research is to understand how clinical reasoning process is formed in the context of occupational therapists w...

cient Reasoning in Qualitative Probabilistic Networks

Qualitative Probabilistic Networks (QPNs) are an abstraction of Bayesian belief networks replacing numerical relations by qualitative innuences and synergies Wellman, 1990b]. We introduce a polynomial time algorithm for reasoning in QPNs, based on local sign pr...

Reasoning about Perception

This paper focuses on the uncouscious mechanisms underlying the process of acquisition of belief through perception. We outlines the basics of a formal theory of belief that is sensitive to the way in which beliefs are formed through perception. The process of formation of beliefs involves a form of inference that is defeasible. We represent this kind of inference by means of well-known techniq...

Reasoning about Fuzzy Belief and Common Belief: With Emphasis on Incomparable Beliefs

We formalize reasoning about fuzzy belief and fuzzy common belief, especially incomparable beliefs, in multi-agent systems by using a logical system based on Fitting’s many-valued modal logic, where incomparable beliefs mean beliefs whose degrees are not totally ordered. Completeness and decidability results for the logic of fuzzy belief and common belief are established while implicitly exploi...
